Dad, why should I listen to you?

A widely recognized fatherhood crisis plagues our nation. Not only have too many fathers abandoned their children, too many have abandoned the loving authority to which God calls them.

Collin Hansen (editor in chief, The Gospel Coalition) argues that though there are legitimate criticisms of the way men have wielded power in the past, the Bible calls men to lay down their lives for their wives and families (Ephesians 5:25-33) and use their power for the good of others. Drawing on the research of Bradford Wilcox, he argues that soft patriarchs that lead with authority and affection produce the best outcomes for their children. Sociology reaffirms the biblical picture of fathers as servant-leaders.
