What is Atlanta Embassy?

Our Responsibilities as Dads

Our responsibilities as fathers are clearly expressed in scripture. Especially in Deuteronomy 6:5-7:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Here, we see two main commands:

  1. Personal Devotion (You shall love the Lord your God…) – We are called to commit ourselves to daily devotion to God.

  2. Family Discipleship (You shall teach them diligently to your children…) – We are commanded to teach God’s Word to our kids.

Family Discipleship? Really?

Many of us desire to see our children thrive in their faith. An increasingly secular society makes heeding the commands of Deuteronomy 6 absolutely vital—especially for dads. But at the same time, many of us feel ill-equipped. If we are honest, the thought of consistent personal devotion, plus family discipleship seems completely overwhelming. Here are some common responses:

  • I just don’t have time for this.

  • My kids won't respond well to me “teaching” them.

  • What curriculum am I supposed to use?

  • My kids' schedules make this impossible.

Busy, But Equipped

As dads, we are busy. It can seem impossible to juggle our many responsibilities plus lead a robust time of family discipleship. But take heart—God will equip you. You can do this! As Philippians 4:19 promises, And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. The Atlanta Embassy is aimed at supplying the need we all feel for better resources and encouragement for this most important of tasks: following Jesus and leading our families to do the same. Each month, you will receive two emails:

  1. Two Tips: Practical advice for individual and family discipleship from an Atlanta dad.

  2. Questions from our kids: Resources to prepare you to respond to the difficult questions our kids ask about the culture and Christianity, including:

    1. A short video response from a leading Christian thinker

    2. An article on the fundamental theological issues behind the question

    3. Devotions for kids of different ages

We will also be hosting events where you can engage with Christian thinkers about these difficult questions and connect with other dads who have also taken on this challenge to disciple their children well.

Flourish as a Family

God gave dads the responsibilities in Deuteronomy 6 so that they and their families would flourish, enjoying the blessings of obeying a good and loving God. You will never regret the time you devote to loving the Lord your God and leading your family to do the same. We aim to equip you to make the most of that time.
